"Short range rapid-fire point defense"

Small and inexpensive, Terran Defense Cannons are point-defense (PD) weapons defending ships from incoming missiles, torpedoes, mines, and drones. Since they're so cheap, they can be mounted on ships for little cost. They also deliver a very good amount of firepower for what they're worth. Since they are projectile cannons and have limited range, they may react to threats slower than beam-based PD. Defense Cannons are set to point defense (PD) mode by default. Despite their inaccuracy, Defense Cannons can hit small targets with their high rate of fire. If player ships have enough of these cannons and decide to remain close to opponents, they can inflict large amounts of sustained damage. As they're quite cost-efficient, they may even be used as close-ranged primary weapons for ships.

Remember, any weapon can be set as a PD weapon or primary/secondary/tertiary/autofire weapon. Primary, secondary, and tertiary weapons are under the player's control. Autofire weapons automatically fire at enemies targetted by the player. PD weapons fire automatically at threats near the ship without player control.

Description:

The Defense Cannon is a simple point defense weapon that automatically fire at nearby enemy missile, drones and hostile ship by default. It's a cheaper counterpart to the Flak Cannons which shoots non-spread accurate explosive projectiles in a rapid single shots, while the Defense Cannon rapidly fire volleys of spreaded swarm of small non-explosive projectiles.
