"Explosive point defense cannon"

Flak Cannons are useful point-defense (PD) weapons, which are very fast at reacting to and eliminating clumps of incoming missiles. Unlike most other turretted weapons, the Flak Cannons turn very fast, reacting speedily to incoming launched projectiles in range. Additionally, Flak Cannons are accurate with fast projectiles, and are well suited for defensive roles. Despite their poor raw power, Flak is useful against multiple incoming launched projectiles because of the large splash radius. Flak Cannons are set to PD mode by default, automatically firing at incoming missiles. Flak is a great choice for point-defense on small agile ships that turn a lot for evasion, since their turrets quickly and don't consume much power. Flak's usefulness against opponents is limited, since a decent amount of armor will stop Flak from doing coniderable amounts of damage. Flak may also struggle against shields because of their low direct damage. However, Flak Cannons deal significant amounts of damage or unshielded ships composed of many small blocks.
